A basketball player knows what they should work on. They are aware that being a good basketball player jumps high in order to score a point. Basketball players who can jump high can practice to dunk a basketball.

Dunking is the practice of jumping and shooting a basketball inside the ring with the player hanging by the ring, victoriously showing off. Usually, a dunk merits a loud cheer among spectators who are watching a game.

A high vertical jump is not only performed by basketball players. Volleyball players know the importance of a high jump to strike a volleyball towards the opponent’s floor.

One of the most underestimated movements for improving a higher basketball vertical leap is climbing the stairs. Whenever you climb the stairs, your leg, buttocks and other muscles are engaged.

Climbing 7 floors will give you an intense workout for your heart and muscles. You do not need to have equipments to perform these vertical training exercises. No need for weights, just climb the stairs in your condominium unit.

Another muscle that is engaged when jumping is your abs. To work on your core (abdominal muscles), you can do crunches. Again, you do not need any fancy equipment to accomplish this activity.

Crunches can be performed by lying on the floor or bench with your knees bent and flat on the floor. Place both of your hands on either side of your head, careful not to press hard so as to avoid injury. Bring your elbow to the direction of your pelvis. Tighten the muscle for a second and go back to your starting position. Repeat this for a couple of times.

Regularly performing these exercises strengthens your body to support high vertical  jumps. If you are heavier and want to improve on your jump, try to lose the excess weight through cardio such as running. Running helps to strengthen your legs muscles that help in pushing you forward.

You should also include jumping rope in the training to strengthen your heart. The activity also works out the abs and buttocks. You will only need rope as the equipment

Proper diet should be prioritized as well because there is no sense to train if you do not eat right. In order to become an effective athlete, you must combine proper diet with the proper exercise to help you become the best jumper that you can be.
